Beginner Classes

PreCanSkate - ages 3-4

PreCanskate is a 30-minute session designed for 3-6 year olds who are completely new to skating or have little skating experience. Skaters MUST be completely potty trained in order to register for this program. This program teaches the basic skating skills through fun and engaging circuits and games. The skaters can expect to learn how to stand-up, move forward and backward, jump, twist, and make snow. Skaters will participate in small group lessons led by an NCCP Certified Professional Coach who is assisted by trained Program Assistants.

Equipment needed: CSA-approved helmet, lace-up skates, and warm/moveable clothing. Bike helmets are not allowed and buckle type skates are not recommended for this program.

CanSkate - ages 4+

Canskate is Skate Canada’s official learn-to-skate program and has been designed to address the development of skating skills and elements in preparation for all ice sports. This program is a 45-minute session and is for skaters who are aged 3 and up (they MUST be potty trained) that can get up, skate forward and backward on their own. Skaters will be introduced to elements in three Fundamental areas; Agility, Balance, and Control. The elements to be taught and strengthened include forward skating, backward skating, stopping, turning, and jumping. Skaters are led by an NCCP Certified Professional Coach who is assisted by trained Program Assistants. Coach/Program Assistant to Skater ratio is 1:10. Registering for two days/week is recommended for faster skill acquisition (discount will be offered if registering for two days/week).

*Designed for skaters aged 3 and up, however, if your child is between 3-6 and has never skated before, we recommend registering them in PreCanskate first. If skaters are 3-4 years old and they have passed the PreCanskate ribbon, but are not able to handle a full 45-minute Canskate session, we suggest registering them in another session of PreCanskate for them to get more comfortable on the ice.

Equipment needed: CSA-approved helmet, lace-up skates, and warm/moveable clothing.  Bike helmets are not allowed and buckle type skates are not recommended for this program.

CanSkate - ages 12+

This 45 minute class runs 1 x week for 10 weeks per session. The Canskate program teaches skaters aged 4 and up the foundations of skating in a fun and positive environment our skaters will receive encouragement and feedback from our coaches and program assistants. Skaters will learn key skills that will help them excel in all ice sports including hockey, figure skating, ringette and speed skating.
